How to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot

What is a hotspot?

A mobile hotspot allows you to share internet data with other devices, such as tablets, laptops, or desktop computers.

You'll need a smartphone with a data plan that supports this feature. Most modern phones, such as Android and iOS (iPhone), can do this.

Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone is handy for sharing internet access. For detailed instructions on setting up a hotspot, see the instructions below.

Things to remember when your hotspot is on

Data

Check how much data you use to avoid exceeding your mobile data plan limit. Any device connected to your hotspot and accessing the internet will count towards your data usage.

Security

Use a strong password to keep your hotspot secure and prevent others from using your data without permission.

Battery

Keep an eye on your phone's battery because using the hotspot can drain it quickly. Adjust the screen brightness and close apps you're not using to save battery.
