About the Girls at the Centre Program

Girls at the Centre is an aspirational program that supports students to engage in learning based on their individual needs.

It aims to reduce absenteeism and school drop-out rates among teenagers, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.

High school can be tough for many, but with the support of Girls at the Centre, our students found it much easier!

The program helps students to

  • Build confidence in their school life.
  • Receive the necessary support to achieve their goals.
  • Develop stronger self-esteem, believing in themselves and overcoming challenges confidently.
Knowing that I can have the Girls at the Centre there to support me for my whole high school life just makes me feel it’s more achievable.

The program aims to address

  • The gap in education between Indigenous and non-Indigenous women.
  • The tendency for Indigenous women to need more education than men to feel confident and achieve the same well-being.
  • Improving job opportunities for Indigenous women.
Places in the program are limited. To learn more or see if your child can join, please contact your Family Partnership Coordinator.
