Students travel to Sydney for jazzy experience
Seven budding Territory musicians are heading to Sydney this Sunday to take part in a week of intensive jazz master classes and improvisation workshops, thanks to the support of The Smith Family. Two students from Rosebery Middle School and five from Sanderson Middle School have been chosen to participate in Jazz Workshops Australia’s annual Jazz Camp.
The Darwin and Palmerston students will join 120 students from around Australia to study, rehearse and perform with Australia’s top jazz artists and teachers including internationally recognised John Morrison, Bob Montgomery and Graeme Lyall, the Director of Australia’s unique Generations in Jazz Academy.
“Providing students with experiences that stretch their skills and take them out of their comfort zone and are ultimately fun and rewarding is a winning combination”, says Catherine Phillips, Regional Programs Manager of The Smith Family in the Northern Territory.
“They come back with a renewed sense of what they can achieve and are able to share their learning experience with their fellow students”.
The Smith Family is a national, independent charity that believes that every child deserves a chance. The Smith Family supports young Australians in need to access opportunities that help them reach their potential so they can create better futures for themselves. In the Northern Territory The Smith Family works in partnership with students, families, schools and community organisations to support students to get the most out of education.
