National women's group set to gather in Tamworth
More than 500 women – representing almost every state of Australia – will meet in Tamworth from Friday 15 September to Sunday 17 September for the VIEW Clubs of Australia National Convention.
VIEW stands for the Voice, Interests and Education of Women and is a national organisation boasting more than 16,000 members - including 554 in the New England and North Central NSW region - dedicated to supporting children's education charity The Smith Family.
The biennial National Convention offers members a chance to come together to celebrate the role of women in society; the contribution of members to fundraising and volunteering efforts within their respective communities; and to debate issues of national importance.
“VIEW was established in 1960 by The Smith Family as a service to women and the community,” said National VIEW President Gwen Wilton. “Our members are incredibly active in their support of disadvantaged Australian children and young people, collectively sponsoring more than 1,200 students through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program, as well as volunteering, fundraising and advocating on key issues.”
“It has been 10 years since we last celebrated Convention in Tamworth – the city was so welcoming and the event was such a success that we were eager to return,” said Gwen.
Over the three-day National Convention, guests will hear from a stellar line-up of notable Australian identities, including: The Hon. Anna Bligh AC, Dr Anne Summers AO, Tony Jones, Jane Hutcheon, Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce and NSW Minister for Women, Tanya Davies. Attendees will also enjoy a range of high-energy social functions including a spectacular Gala Dinner.
Delegates will debate matters of national concern on four resolutions drawn from discussion at club level, celebrate achievements in their respective communities and reconnect with long-term friends.
There are three VIEW Clubs in Tamworth and 13 clubs across the broader New England and North Central NSW region, with new members always welcome.
The 2017 National Convention will be held at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the VIEW website or call 1800 814 611.
