Appointment of new Chief Executive Officer for The Smith Family

The Board of The Smith Family announced today the appointment of Doug Taylor as Chief Executive Officer of The Smith Family, effective from 9 August 2021.

Currently Deputy Executive Director at Uniting NSW and ACT, Doug brings to The Smith Family extensive national and international experience in leading innovative social impact initiatives in partnership with the not-for-profit, government, philanthropic and the corporate sectors. He has considerable operational experience in managing large and complex organisations serving people who experience disadvantage including delivering disability, community care, early learning and education services.

Chairman of The Smith Family, Nicholas Moore said: “Throughout his career, Doug has been driven by the need to support Australians experiencing social and economic need. With education a key enabler of positive social change, Doug is excited to be joining The Smith Family with our strong record of delivering effective educational support to children and young people in need.

“The Board warmly welcomes Doug to our organisation and looks forward to working with him in continuing to progress our goal of helping children and young people achieve better futures for themselves through education,” Moore added.

Doug’s passion for the sector is evident through his Board appointments which include Director of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation, WorkVentures and Chair of Warakirri College (a school for disengaged young people in Western Sydney). He is also a member of the Centre for Social Impact Advisory Board and is a Community Fellow with Western Sydney University.

The Board also wishes to thank Judy Barraclough for providing excellent leadership as Acting CEO. Since March 2021, Judy has overseen organisational progress in a number of critical areas.

Accordingly, I am pleased to confirm that Doug’s first act as CEO will be appointing Judy Barraclough as Deputy CEO of The Smith Family. We look forward to Judy’s future contributions to The Smith Family as Deputy CEO and as Head of Strategy and Philanthropy,” Moore said.
