Meet one of our youngest members ever
At just 19, Natasha, a Gold Coast childcare student, has earned a place in history – as one of the youngest members ever, and she is currently the Treasurer of a VIEW Club in Queensland.
VIEW is a national women's organisation with over 15,000 members in more than 300 communities. VIEW stands for the Voice, Interests and Education of Women and offers a network for women to connect with each other in the community, while exclusively supporting the work of The Smith Family in providing long-term educational support for Australian children and young people in need.
Natasha is so proud to be the fourth generation of her family to be a part of VIEW, along with her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother!
"I have so many great memories of going along to VIEW meetings and events with my Grandma,” says Natasha. “It has had such an impact on my life and I always wanted to be a part of it, to do my bit with the amazing work they do.”
This year is a special one for VIEW, as members mark its 60th anniversary and celebrate their Diamond Jubilee. VIEW formed in 1960 as a service club for women, providing the opportunity for them to help The Smith Family through volunteering and fundraising.
VIEW members are proud to be the largest community sponsor of The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program. Collectively, VIEW sponsors the education of more than 1,400 students on the Learning for Life program. They also donate more than 70,000 volunteer hours each year.
“VIEW is a fantastic organisation that has grown enormously since it was started,” says Natasha. “We know we are making a difference to young Australians. Being part of VIEW is a great way to give back to the community.”
It is incredible to receive their correspondence, to hear how they are getting along, that their Maths has improved or how much better they are doing in English. It is a joy.
I think regeneration of VIEW is very important, as it is the largest community sponsor of Learning for Life students. We need more young members and Tash is an excellent addition.
And one of the youngest members and club treasurers ever, Natasha, will now play a pivotal role in leading the regeneration of her club.
“It’s great to be the youngest member of my club, but I don’t really think about it that much because I am so focused on helping the kids. To help the next generation of kids we really need to get more young people involved. It would be a real boost to the club.”
Natasha’s grandmother Evelyn, who has been a VIEW member for 26 years, loves connecting with her VIEW Club’s 15 sponsored students via letters and email.
"It is incredible to receive their correspondence, to hear how they are getting along, that their maths has improved or how much better they are doing in English. It is a joy," said Evelyn.
