The Smith Family focuses on helping disadvantaged Australian students get the most out of their education all year round. But come Christmas time each year, many families struggle to afford to celebrate it with their children.

Each year we work with our generous volunteers, supporters and corporate partners to provide gifts to children in need, to help bring Christmas joy to these families. This tradition began when The Smith Family was founded in 1922, when five anonymous donors dropped off gifts on Christmas Eve.

By Christmas 2019 we:

Delivered almost 27,000 toy and book packs to children across Australia
Around 3,500 generous volunteers helped with the packs and delivery day
Over 12,000 families received toys and books
Over 75,000 toys and 33,000 books were donated through the appeal

These figures grew significantly from previous years, as we continue to increase the number of students in need we support.

And our families can’t thank you enough for the support.

“To have support at Christmas time with the gifts means a lot because it provides me with gifts that I may not have been able to retrieve myself and it also teaches my children that Christmas comes from a community,” said Belinda, mother of Learning for Life students.
